Men's mental health & wellbeing
I'm Darrell, a BACP-registered psychotherapist and coach, offering online therapy and coaching for men UK-wide. I help with issues such as anger, identity, anxiety, relationships, and lack of direction. I won't just sit there silent and nodding - expect real engagement and change. Sometimes I listen. Sometimes I challenge or give you a straight suggestion. Whatever the moment actually needs. Alongside my private practice, I work in a senior leadership role at a mental health charity.
I've dealt with identity anxiety myself. I relied on substances just to feel confident enough to talk to people, lost my sense of purpose, and didn't know how to ask for what I needed in relationships. I failed a lot, and I kept going anyway. What made the difference wasn't getting it right every time - it was showing up consistently and realising I didn't have to do it on my own.

Not feeling sure of who you are, or needing something just to feel confident enough to talk to people. We'll work on building a steadier sense of self — one that doesn't depend on anything external to hold it up.
Struggling to say what you actually need, worrying about how you're seen, or holding back from relationships altogether. We'll work on finding your voice, and using it.
Anger that shows up before you've even worked out what's underneath it. We'll look at what it's protecting, and work on catching it earlier - before it costs you something you care about.
Knowing there's something more you want, but feeling stuck, low, or unsure how to move toward it. We'll work on finding a direction that actually feels like yours.
One to one
One-to-one sessions, fully online, 50 minutes. £60 per session - concessionary spaces available from £40 (for students, low income, or unemployed — just ask). Whether it's anxiety, relationships, anger, or just feeling stuck, we'll work through it together, at your pace.

12-week programme
A 12-week, one-to-one mentoring programme. Online, 50 minutes a session. This isn't therapy - it's forward-facing and built around action. We'll get clear on what you actually want, set real goals, and I'll hold you accountable as you go out and do the things that move you toward them. Less talking about it in the room, more living it out in the world. £1,000 for the full 12-week programme, payable in instalments. Spaces will also open in future for an ongoing peer group, for those who've been through the programme and want to keep going with others walking the same path.

I started Have A Word because I know what it feels like to be completely lost. I was looking for direction, accountability, a role model - all in the wrong places. I relied heavily on substances just to feel confident enough to talk to people or to mask my issues, and found myself in some genuinely vulnerable situations because of it. Anger had a massive impact on my relationships - I'd often blow up in public, cause a scene, and be left feeling filled with shame afterwards. I couldn't let myself get too close to anyone - I was terrified of being rejected, even though I was rejected plenty - so I pushed people away before they could get close, all while craving connection and community.
Eventually I got to a point where I had to do something about it. Once I took action, I slowly started reaching out to men who had faced similar issues and found ways to support myself. It was a long road, and it could easily have gone the other way. But I stayed consistent - and now I'm genuinely living a life I love, surrounded by people who I care about. Direction. Purpose. Real connection. All the things that once felt completely out of reach.
I hold a Foundation Degree in Person-Centred Psychotherapy, and I'm a registered member of the BACP. In practice, I work humanistically and integratively - meaning I don't stick rigidly to one method. Sometimes that looks like sitting with you and reflecting what you said. Other times it's giving a direct suggestion, pointing out when what you're saying doesn't quite line up with what you actually want, or bringing in a bit of psychoeducation to help things click. Whatever's actually useful at the time.
I'm not here as someone better than you, or someone who's got it all figured out. I'm a professional who's been through it, and who genuinely cares about helping you find your own way through.
You're not weak. You're just doing it on your own.
